DANISH CHILDREN – GROWING UP AMERICAN

A wonderful photo exhibit, Danish Children Growing Up American, featuring photographs from the Danish American Archive and Library’s collections had its first showing at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Criss Library September 10 to October 25.

The exhibit features approximately 50 photos displayed on 20 double sided 4-foot wide by 8-foot tall panels.  These compelling photos, enlarged to life sized or larger cover various aspects (recreation, education, religious, family) of Danish immigrant children’s lives in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and reveal detail not possible to see in a smaller snapshot.  This is just a small sampling of the photos that are contained in the DAAL collections in which thousands of similar photos can be found.

Together UNO and DAAL form a community partnership that combines the DAAL’s wealth of resources with UNO’s educational goals. The “Danish Children” exhibit is one of the first projects that has emerged from this partnership.

Danish Children Growing Up American is a portable display and can be shown in its entirety or in sections.  If you are interested in hosting this exhibit, please contact the Danish American Archive and Library at info@danishamericanarchive.com or 402-426-7910.
